Maplelawn Garden’s Plant Inventory List, as accurately as possible, reflects the plants currently in and/or originally in the Garden. The selection of these plants is based on a number of other historical and developmental documents, in addition to necessary changes/additions since 1993:
- Warren Oliver’s original 1936 plan for the external beds (a mixture of Scientific and Common Names, sometimes non-specific with regards to variety)
- Johann Latremouille's plan (NCC, 1997) for quadrant beds inspired by the original Oliver plan
- As Found Lists: (1985,1994) which included many unnamed plants, possibly added by members of the families
- Replacements: Changing growing conditions, winter kill and disease have made occasional plant replacements a necessity. When possible, the same species and variety are replanted. When the variety is unknown or unavailable, or soil borne disease remains a concern, replacements have been made taking into consideration the leaf shape, plant height and colour and blooming time of the original.
